Adding tablets
A tablet is a device account tied to one machine — not a person. Mount it on the shop floor next to that machine so operators can log downtime and jobs from its Operator Panel. This page walks through creating a Tablet user and pairing the physical device. For what a Tablet can and can't do, see Roles and permissions.
Before you start
- You need an Admin account — only Admins can create Tablet users.
- The machine the tablet will control must already exist in TrackMyMachines. See Adding machines if it doesn't yet.
1. Create the Tablet user
- Go to Manage → Users and click New User
- Set Role to Tablet
- Enter a username — something identifiable, e.g.
tablet_01 - Under Machine Mode, pick the machine this tablet controls
- Optionally set the timezone the tablet should display times in
- Click Create User
Tablet users don't take an email address, and there's no Area Gating option — they're already locked to the single machine you picked.
2. Pair the physical device
- Bring the tablet to your PC
- On the Users list, find the tablet user and click Show QR
- Confirm the prompt — this generates a new password and signs out any device already using the old one
- A window opens with a QR code and the matching password
- On the tablet, open the camera app — double-tap the power button to open it quickly
- Hold the tablet up to the QR code until a yellow box appears over it, then tap the yellow box to open the link
- Click Log In
The link opens the login page with the username and password already filled in — clicking Log In signs the tablet in with Remember me ticked, and lands it on that machine's Operator Panel.
No camera, or the tablet can't scan? Type the username and password shown next to the QR code into the login page by hand instead.
Re-pairing a tablet
If a tablet is reset, replaced, or its session expires, open Manage → Users, find its row, and click Show QR again to get a fresh code.
Clicking Show QR generates a new password every time. This immediately signs out whatever device was using the old one, so only do it when you're ready to re-pair.
